A cursing blood reliquary was placed outside Denver City Hall on March 27, 2026 in protest of Denver Mayor Mike Johnston's push to surveil Denver citizens.
Johnston built surveillance infrastructure over the explicit objection of his own City Council. The council voted unanimously to reject the Flock camera contract extension.Johnston bypassed them by cutting the contract to $498,500, just below the threshold requiring council approval. Audit logs obtained through open records requests documented over 1,400 ICE-related searches.His office knew while publicly denying data sharing with federal immigration enforcement.On March 27, we were placing a blood reliquary at city hall when Johnston emerged with a group of staffers.After a while, he asked what we were up to. We told him the intent behind the reliquary was to let him know that we do not want to be surveilled.He responded that his new contract disallows federal data sharing."Have you seen it?" he asked.No, Johnston. Those firms are notorious for not following such rules, and brooking such nonsense is collaborationist.We told Johnston that we simply do not flock cameras, even for increased surveillance at the city level.

Today CURSING placed a blood reliquary outside Denver City Hall in protest of Mayor Mike Johnston's surveillance infrastructure.While we were photographing it, Johnston walked out.Video recap:

Last Saturday CURSING played at The Crypt during Necropolis, the monthly queer-centered goth and industrial dance night hosted by our supreme herocrush, Lisa Frank 666. If you haven't been, kindly fix that.
Drag visionaries Stoic, Thee Fiasco, and Lisa Frank 666 worked their chaotic heat downstage for most of our set. Devin busted out a tricephalous mirror mask.Then Lisa crowdsurfed:

Three bloody hands have been placed across Denver.
Each hand is a working class curse on the ultra-rich.
🔻 One outside an ICE office
Indicating the perpetrators of state violence.
🔻 One outside Centennial Airport, one of the busiest private jet hubs in the nation.
Indicating the rich, who benefit from state violence.
🔻 One in a friendly Colfax storefront window.
Building community among working class people affected by state violence.
The only war is class war.
These resin reliquaries contain ritual items: blood, rusted nails, red yarn, black salt, burnt money, rat fragments. All strains of intention mentioned in CURSING songs.
